Food in Singapore

With our plethora of cultures and races, Singapore is a food paradise with delicious dishes for all tongues!

  • Enjoy local delights and dine al fresco in the hawker centres and coffee shops with a myriad of stalls to choose from at a typical range of $3-$8+ per dish. *Note: It is common for people to ‘chope’ or reserve a table with just a tissue packet!
  • Too hot & humid to eat outdoors? Explore the shopping malls peppered around every neighbourhood for air-conditioned eateries and restaurants of various cuisines at a typical range of $6-$20+ per dish.
  • Tipping is generally not required as most eateries and restaurants include a 10% service charge in the bill.

Medical Expenses

  • Singapore currently has 20 outpatient polyclinics and about 1,700 private General Practitioner clinics spread out across the island.
  • There are 8 public hospitals and 10 private hospitals providing multi-disciplinary inpatient and outpatient services, as well as 24-hour emergency departments.

As of April 2007, private doctors in Singapore are free to set their own fees, instead of referring to guidelines (see below) drawn up by the Singapore Medical Association (SMA), which has been in place since 1987. Consultation fees are normally dependent on a few factors namely:

  • The seniority of the doctor
  • The duration of the consultation
  • The complication of the disease

Recommended fee guideline set by the Singapore Medical Association (SMA):
