Singapore is a vibrant, multicultural city-state known for its blend of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and a blend of Eastern and Western influences, reflected in its languages, religions, cuisines, and traditions. As an international student, you will experience a tropical climate that is warm and humid year-round, so light clothing and an umbrella are everyday essentials. The city offers a wide variety of food options, from local hawker centres to international restaurants, with no need to tip as service charges are included. With its efficiency, diversity, and welcoming environment, Singapore is an exciting place to live and study.

Before you land in Singapore, the International Student Office (ISO) ensures you are well-prepared for a smooth transition. They guide you through the essentials: pre-departure preparations, accommodation recommendations and arrival support when you reach Singapore.

You also gain access to SIM GE’s Buddy Programme, which pairs you with a current student who can introduce you to campus life and answer questions even before you arrive. Once your flight is booked, you can schedule the Arrival Meet & Greet Service for airport pickup.

Additionally, ISO helps with arranging your medical examinations for student pass application purposes, and ensures that you are familiar with campus systems like SIMConnect so you are ready to hit the ground running.

Students’ Pass Application

Students’ Pass Application

All full-time international students in Singapore are required to hold a Student’s Pass (STP) issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). SIM Global Education will assist you with your STP application, submitting it via the SIMConnect Applicant Portal.

 

We recommend submitting your Student’s Pass application 2 to 6 months before your course begins to allow enough processing time.

 

Once your application is approved, you will need to be in Singapore to complete the formalities in person at the ICA Building. The Student’s Pass will then be issued within one month before your course starts, so you will be ready to begin your studies smoothly.

Accommodation Search Support

At SIM Global Education, you will find a variety of accommodation options close to campus, including our partner student hostels and co-living spaces. The International Student Office (ISO) is here to support you by providing resources and listings that cover everything from furnished rooms to shared social spaces, plus amenities like Wi-Fi and laundry facilities.

 

You can easily explore these options through the SIM website and our partner platforms, where you will find details on locations, facilities, and what to expect in terms of living arrangements.
Buddy Programme

Buddy Programme

The SIM Global Education Buddy Programme is designed to help new international students feel welcomed and supported as they transition to life in Singapore. Upon acceptance, students are paired with a current SIM GE student who shares similar cultural backgrounds and languages. This connection begins with a virtual introduction, allowing students to ask questions and learn about student life even before arriving.

 

Buddies assist with navigating SIMConnect, understanding local living and studying conditions, and, upon request, provide meet-and-greet services upon arrival, accompany students to their accommodation, and offer campus and neighbourhood tours.
Welcome Reception

Welcome Reception

Our Welcome Reception is designed to help new international students like you settle in and feel part of the campus community. Students are welcomed by SIM GE staff and student leaders, introduced to key academic and support services, and connected with peers through icebreaker activities and networking opportunities.

 

The reception also provides an overview of the Buddy Programme, giving students a chance to meet their assigned buddy and receive guidance on campus life and local living. Overall, it is a friendly and informative event that equips you with the resources, connections, and confidence to start your studies smoothly.
